The Metals Company Stock: The Seafloor Case

The Metals Company stock is the high-confidence read behind Target #2 on Dr. Mark Skousen’s “SKO List,” the critical-minerals link in his chain of companies Elon Musk “must acquire before 01/01/2027.” As with every identification in this campaign, the precision matters: the promo never names the company, so this is our read from the fingerprint, unconfirmed by the presenter. If you searched the ticker, here is the pitch’s case, the company’s real situation, and our honest take. The complete treatment is our SKO List review. Our TMC Stock Price Prediction: The Bull Case explainer covers this in detail.

The Fingerprint

The pitch’s clues for Target #2: the company holds seabed mineral rights “across an area the size of the entire state of South Carolina,” trades “under $5 per share,” and its U.S. application was recently found in full compliance under the Deep Seabed Hard Mineral Resources Act.

Each clue is checkable, and each points the same way. The Metals Company holds exploration rights to polymetallic nodule areas in the Pacific Clarion-Clipperton Zone measured in hundreds of thousands of square kilometers, the “size of South Carolina” comparison capturing the scale. The share price sits in the sub-$5 range the pitch describes. And the compliance milestone is documented: the company’s U.S. application was found in compliance in May 2026 under the Deep Seabed Hard Mineral Resources Act, the regulatory path that lets U.S.-affiliated seabed projects proceed outside international moratorium politics.

The Pitch’s Case

The minerals case is anchored in documented geopolitics. China’s April 2025 export licensing on seven medium and heavy rare earths “threw the supply chain that powers America’s defense industry… into chaos” (documented), and the Pentagon’s 15% equity stake in MP Materials (documented) shows the U.S. government treating critical-minerals supply as a national security asset. The pitch’s return language for this target: “could soar as much as a 100% overnight and explode up to a thousand percent over the next few months. I have no doubt about it,” the strongest unqualified claim in the transcript, which we flag as the pitch’s one clear break from its otherwise decent hedging discipline.

The strategic logic: Musk’s rockets, satellites, and robotics all run through critical minerals, and a company sitting on the largest undeveloped seabed resource with a U.S. regulatory green light is exactly the kind of supply link the pitch’s vertical-control thesis (“the kind of vertical control that built the great American monopolies”) says an empire-builder acquires.

The Honest Read

What checks out: the geopolitical facts are real, the regulatory milestone is real and dated, the fingerprint is specific, and the sub-$5 price point is accurate. The pitch deserves credit for anchoring its minerals target in documented policy events rather than narrative alone; this is the most checkable of its three secret picks.

The caveats, in order of weight. Deep-sea mining remains a development-stage industry: the nodules are real, extraction technology has been demonstrated, but commercial-scale economics depend on permitting pace, processing build-out, and metal prices, none of which follow a calendar. A sub-$5 development-stage name is binary-risk in a way the pitch’s percentage framing does not convey, and “I have no doubt about it” should be read as sales rhetoric precisely because the doubts are enumerable. And the acquisition clock (“before 01/01/2027”) is the campaign’s speculation layer throughout: the pitch asserts Musk’s appetite (“the appetite never went away”) without engaging the case that he simply does not buy.

For the sector’s context, our rare earth stocks coverage profiles the established names, and the SKO List review places the seafloor case inside the full four-target chain: compute (Cerebras-profile), spectrum (Viasat-profile), and the named free pick, Rocket Lab, covered in our Rocket Lab stock profile.

The Presenter Making the Call

The minerals target is the most policy-heavy pick on the list, so the presenter’s profile matters more than usual. Dr. Mark Skousen’s biography is unusually verifiable: a former analyst at the CIA, “a PhD in economics,” the author of more than 25 books, and the founder of FreedomFest, where he says he met Elon Musk “face to face” and where “Fed chairman attend, senators, financial experts, even president Trump was a keynote speaker at my event.” His macro-call block is specific and mostly checkable (Black Monday in 1987, the Berlin Wall, the March 2009 bottom, the 2017 bull market, gold and silver at record highs in 2025), and the candor line we keep quoting is the genre’s rarest sentence: “Now, I haven’t always been accurate in all of my predictions, but over the years, I think I’ve done a pretty good job of making good predictions.” His adjacent-plays record (“Rocket Lab up 77% in sixteen days. Red Wire Corporation up 69% in ninety eight days”) cites real listed companies. None of that makes the thousand-percent projection true; it makes the underlying research worth reading rather than dismissing, which is the distinction this whole article exists to draw.
