Sorting the Man From the Marketing

Larry Benedict has one of the more defensible resumes in the financial newsletter business. He is profiled in Jack Schwager’s “Hedge Fund Market Wizards,” a book known for featuring traders with verified records, and he ran his own hedge fund before moving into retail publishing through The Opportunistic Trader, a MarketWise brand. That background is real, and it is why his work deserves a fair read rather than an automatic dismissal.

The Claims That Do Not Hold Up

The promotional side is where the reviews get mixed. The One Ticker Trader pitch advertises 20 consecutive winning years, $274 million in client profits, and a 279% return in 2025 against the S&P 500’s 15%. These are the sort of figures that would be impossible for an outside reader to confirm, and no audited statement backs them. Honest reviewers tend to flag exactly this gap: the biography is solid, but the advertised track record is unverifiable.

What That Means for a Subscriber

The practical question is whether a $19 first-year trial is worth it when the renewal is $199. The service’s actual strategy, trading options on a single equal-weight S&P 500 fund, is concentrated by design, and options demand being right on both direction and timing. For the specifics of how that service operates, read our One Ticker Trader explainer. For a straight verdict on the offer itself, our One Ticker Trader review lays out the price and the fine print.
