A Hedge Fund Veteran, Not a Marketing Invention

Larry Benedict is the presenter behind One Ticker Trader and its Project 2026 pitch. His most concrete credential is a slot in Jack Schwager’s “Hedge Fund Market Wizards,” the same series that profiled traders like Paul Tudor Jones and Ed Seykota. Being included in that book is a genuine signal, because Schwager built his reputation on finding traders with real, audited records rather than newsletter hype.

From Hedge Fund Desk to Retail Newsletter

Benedict’s career arc runs from running his own hedge fund to publishing research through The Opportunistic Trader, a MarketWise newsletter. That transition is common in the industry, and it matters for how you read his work. A fund manager who survives two decades in markets has real experience to draw on, but a newsletter’s promotional copy is still marketing, and its headline numbers are not audited the way a fund’s returns would be.

The promo claims 20 consecutive winning years, $274 million in client profits, and a 279% return in 2025 versus the S&P 500’s 15%. None of those figures can be independently confirmed, so they belong in the “treat as advertising” column.

What His Actual Strategy Is

Benedict’s Project 2026 thesis is that trade policy will rotate capital out of the biggest S&P 500 names and into the equal-weight index, and that the Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF (RSP) is the vehicle. His service trades options on RSP rather than buying and holding it, which means the strategy depends on both direction and timing.
